Apple Buys Beats Electronics For $3B
On Monday, Apple has indeed purchased Beats, which includes both Beats Audio hardware and Beats Music, the streaming radio service that was founded by rapper Dr. Dre and longtime music industry exec Jimmy Iovine. The deal was reported to be in the works earlier this month, and was said to be worth an estimated $3.2 billion at the time, though a recent New York Post report said it was cut to $3 billion after Apple completed its due diligence. The price is indeed $3 billion, with $2.6 billion in cash and $400 million in stock via @techcrunch
Microsoft Launches Files Tool For Windows Phone 8.1
On Wednesday, Microsoft released Files, a file management tool for Windows Phone 8.1that it had previously promised. The app is simple, but then again so is local file management. Users of Files will be able to access content that is stored locally, as well as on SD cards. Folder creation is supported, along with normal tasks like moving and deleting content. via @techcrunch
Apple rumored to announce iPhone smart-home remote
Needless to say, the rumor mill is spinning fast and furious, with lots of expectations for new iPhones and the very likely introduction of iOS8 at Apple WWDC 2014. According to the Wall Street Journal report – “A big splash in the world of smart-home technology.” Specifically, the report said your iPhone will be able to automate everything from opening the garage door to turning on the lights when you get home. It’s been expected that might be Apple will add smart-home features to the next version of its mobile operating system via @cnet
Microsoft, Salesforce CEOs reveal tighter ties between sometimes rivals
On Thursday, after the collaboration by Microsoft and enterprise company Salesforce.com, it’s reasonable to ask whether that particular bit of pop-culture wisdom got flipped on its head. The agreement calls for the longtime rivals to work on ways that will make it easier for users of Microsoft’s Windows and Windows Phone operating systems, as well as Office 365, to connect to Salesforce’s customer-relations management applications and platform. Samsung’s first Tizen phone, the Samsung Z, to hit Russia in Q3
Samsung’s first Tizen smartphone is finally here — well kinda. Late Sunday, the Korean electronics giant said that it will launch its first smartphone powered by open-source software in the third quarter in Russia. The phone, called, the Samsung Z, will ship in other markets at a later date, Samsung said. The phone comes with a 4.9-inch HD Super AMOLED display and a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor and fully supports 2D and 3D graphics. It also sports an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and includes a fingerprint sensor and the ultra power saving mode that first appeared in Samsung’s Galaxy S5 flagship Android phone. The Samsung Z will be available in black and gold and features a slim, angular design that sets the device apart from Samsung’s Galaxy S line of phones via @cnet
